Sally Ryon Matuskey

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Sally Ryon Matuskey on Monday, May 5, 2025, after a sudden illness in Richardson, Texas. She is predeceased by her parents, Art and Louise Ryon, maternal aunts, Margaret Benson and Judy Karafiat, and nephew, Scott Prout. Sally was survived by her sisters, Susan Mierhenry and Lou Ann Wallner; and her brothers, Richard Ryon and Gary Ryon. Sally was a wonderful and caring daughter, niece, sister, wife, aunt, and friend. She always found good in people. Sally Ryon was born in Pasadena and raised in Southern California where she attended school. She launched a successful career in 1964, as an Executive Secretary for Richfield Oil Company working in the corporate headquarters located at Richfield Tower, a beloved Art Deco building which dominated the downtown Los Angeles skyline. Sally met George Matuskey during this period, and they married on August 12, 1972. They purchased a home in 1983, adjacent to Crowley Park in Richardson, Texas. George had found greater opportunities for his business in Dallas. And, Sally transferred to the Dallas Executive Offices of Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO) where she worked for 30 years. During retirement, Sally found happiness, personal growth and civil engagement in her volunteer position at Scottish Rite for Children. Spending countless hours, earning awards for her service, she found hundreds of “children” to aid, support and comfort. This endeavor provided her with tremendous satisfaction. In this way, Sally and George lived out their years together in fulfillment of the quest “to continue becoming better people in a better world.” Sally and George spent many hours in Crowley Park walking, enjoying friends, the ducks, and surrounding scenery. After George’s passing, Sally acquired close friends and exercise partners. Sally will be missed, but memories of her make all of us smile. Family and friends agree Sally would have loved the Celebration of her Life, scheduled on July 29, 2025, her birthday. Rest in peace now and we will see you on the other side.
