Mary Anne Thorson

Mary Anne (MaryAnne) Thorson passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026 at the age of 84 in Lewisville, TX. She was a rare soul who was loved by her family and friends. She was known for her wide smile, kind heart, thoughtfulness, and remarkable skill in the kitchen- especially for baking the best gingersnaps ever. MaryAnne was born September 27, 1941 to Lawrence and Cleo (Harry) Tholkes in Cody, Wyoming. She had three younger siblings, Larry, Corrine, and Debi. The family moved often and were living in North Dakota when MaryAnne began attending Minot State Teachers College. While living in Minot, MaryAnne met her first husband, Daniel Skalicky of Powers Lake, ND. The couple married soon after they met and had three sons, Lawrence, David, and Bradley, all of whom she loved fiercely. The family lived in North Dakota, Montana, and California before settling in Lander, WY. In 1978 MaryAnne joined the Fremont County Assessor’s office where she worked until her retirement. She took great joy in showing off her grandchildren any time they came to visit. On February 17, 1990, she married the love of her life, Edward Thorson. Together they built a life of love and laughter, finding joy in each other and in their many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In their retirement, she and Ed took great pride in serving for ten years as campground hosts for the U.S. Forest Service at the Pinnacles Campground outside Dubois, Wyoming. Each year they anxiously waited for the roads to open in the Spring so they could begin their time in the mountains. They enjoyed meeting and making connections with people from all over the world and were quick to share their love of Wyoming, a few tall tales, and MaryAnne’s excellent cooking. MaryAnne was preceded in death by two infant daughters, her parents, her beloved Ed, and her youngest sister, Debi Fincher. She is survived by her children, Larry Skalicky, Dave Skalicky, and Brad Skalicky; her stepson, Tim Thorson, her brother Larry of Lake Charles, LA; her sister, Corrine Clark of Lewisville, TX; several nieces and nephews, 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Dalton and Son Funeral Home in Lewisville, TX. An internment and reception are planned for late-Spring, 2026 in Cheyenne, WY.
