Mary Lou Calhoun

Mary Lou (Cummings) Calhoun, of Denton, Texas, age 84, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on October 25, 2025. Mary was born on September 18, 1941, in Sedan, Kansas, to Ernest Edward Cummings and Inez Eloise Cummings—one of twelve children in a big and lively family. She graduated from Pawhuska High School in Oklahoma and soon after married Louis Henry Jones, with whom she had two children: Henry (Hank) Nathan Jones and Cindy Lou Jones Haddock. She devoted herself to raising her family and later made her home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, where she built many lasting friendships. Mary later married Charles (Charlie) Calhoun, and together they made their home in Collinsville, Oklahoma. They shared many happy years square dancing, camping, and metal detecting, enjoying time together and staying active in their community. Mary and Charlie eventually moved to Texas to be near her daughter and grandchildren. They continued their love of the outdoors while serving as park hosts at Lewisville Lake. After Charlie’s passing in 2019, Mary remained in Denton, close to her family, who were an important part of her everyday life. Mary loved her faithful Corgi, Roxie, who was always by her side. She loved to talk and never met a stranger. She was full of energy and always ready to help others. She enjoyed country music (especially George Jones), a tidy home, and spending time outdoors caring for her yard. She found happiness in the simple things—a good meal, a friendly chat, and time spent with the people and pets she loved most. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Jones Haddock, and son-in-law, Darin Haddock; and by her son, Henry (Hank) Jones, and daughter-in-law, Maggie Jones. Her grandchildren brought her great joy—Chari Jones Ford and Dustin Jones, with whom she shared a special bond throughout her life; Austin and Logan Haddock, whom she saw almost every day, sharing countless lunches, errands, and moments together that kept her smiling and active; and Nathan, Vanessa, and Jasper Jones—always in her heart, no matter the distance. Mary was blessed with great-grandchildren Dakota, Colton, Paige, Cole, Jerilynn, Tennessee, Stormy, Kimber (who preceded her in death), Kaleb, Elijah, Lincoln, Emelia, and Lilliana, as well as great-great-grandchildren Harley and Haygen. She is survived by her sisters Iris Nadene Myers, Shirley Hazlett, Janice Lane, Janet Delaney, Gwen Moreau, and Brenda McKinzie, and was preceded in death by her siblings Duane Cummings, Ronnie Cummings, Joyce McNinch, Karen Lyons, and David Cummings. Mary also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, all dearly loved and remembered with affection. Mary will be remembered for her caring heart, her endless energy, and her love for family, friends, and the simple joys of life. Her warmth and spirit will live on in the many lives she touched.
