Craig Edwin Walsh

Craig E. Walsh Craig Walsh, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many passed on from this life on May 3, 2024, surrounded and supported by his loving family. Craig was born to Eugene and June Walsh on March 5, 1952. During his 72 years Craig touched many people in different ways. He graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, IA in 1970. Craig worked for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a switchman for over 40 years. He served as the local union chair and then was elected as General Chairman. Craig was dedicated to making the best working conditions for his people that he could and did an outstanding job representing his fellow workers. “Quiet Craig”, as some people like to call him was a champ at the “one-line zingers.” When you thought that he wasn’t listening he would share one of his zingers with you or the group and have everyone in stiches. He had many friends from all walks of life, and he treated everyone the same. That was Craig. You could usually find Craig, on his days off, either washing his car, mowing the lawn, or trimming bushes and then treating himself to an adult beverage when he finished. He loved working in the yard and around the house. Craig was a true black and gold, Iowa Hawkeye fan. You could find him at Marty’s cheering them on at most of the football games. He also loved his Chicago Cubs. He was a true fan—in the down years as well as in the good years. He was blessed to have had the opportunity to see his Chicago Cubs win the World Series! He enjoyed watching many of these games with his wife and son in person. A memory that they will always have. Craig married the love of his life, Donna, in July 1978. Together, they created a home for their son, Ryan. A home that was filled with love and joy throughout the years. Sioux City was Craig’s home until he retired and then the call of Grandchildren drew him and Donna to Texas to be near their three granddaughters. Craig assumed the role of Grandpa with ease, and it was probably the favorite job of his life! When the girls were babies, the family called him the “baby whisperer” because he could often calm the crying when no one else could. Craig is survived by his wife, Donna, son Ryan and his wife Lindsey, and their children, Emileigh, Olivia, and Brooklyn; his brother Scott and his wife Cathy and his sister Julie; an Uncle Lawrence Walsh, plus nieces, nephews, and cousins. In his quiet manner Craig had an influence upon those who knew him. He touched people in ways that they really did not realize until time had passed. If he was your friend, you had a friend that would never let you down. His family will miss him dearly, but they shall always have the memories and the experiences that they had with him, and they shall cherish those forever. His family thanks everyone for their support, love, and encouragement as they deal with his passing. A celebration of life will be held later at a date to be determined.
