Phyllis Elanore Grace

Phyllis Elanore Grace (Warchal) entered into the presence of Christ on June 19, 2024. Beloved daughter of the late Joseph and the late Helen Olejniczak Warchal, Phyllis was born in Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by husband, Charles Grace, and her siblings Sr. Mary Janella Felician Sister, Irene Mackowiak, Rita Rossborough and Jesse Warchal. She was the aunt of many nieces and nephews, and cousin to many. Those left to cherish her memory, daughter, Mary Grace Bell (Jerry); her grandchildren, Megan Bryant, Paige Bell, Chase Bryant, Lauren Bell; and great-grandchildren Kasen Bell, Sunny Bell, and her sister, Florence Warchal. Phyllis was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, and her friends. She married the love of her life, Charlie, after meeting him in Leopoldville, Congo and had 49 wonderful wedded years of bliss. Together they had their only daughter, Mary. Phyllis loved being a wife and mother. She would always say how blessed she was with her entire family-parents, siblings, husband and daughter. She took incredible pride in being a wife, mother and grandmother. She will be fondly remembered for her trailblazing world travels and stories. The U.S. State Department was recruiting women to serve in the Foreign Service and she was up for the task. She served in Guatemala City, Hong Kong, Wellington, and Athens, Baghdad and Leopoldville. The latter two posts were considered hard-ship posts which she valued. She was ever the “ambassador” on building relationships both abroad and in the states with co-workers, neighbors, and church family. Her memory remained vivid to the end and she could recount many historic details and events of her past. She cherished longtime friends. She loved planning creative dinner parties and inviting friends and family. She was a great cook, especially her meatballs and chili. Phyllis always made people feel welcome. In her later years, she was active on the Welcoming Committee in several retirement residences, ensuring no one would feel alone. She diligently made every effort to remember new resident’s names as a further gesture. In the last few months, she warmly said every time she thought about Jesus she could not help but smile. Her face radiated such a joy and peace. She lived a long, robust and happy life and was ready. Her service will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024, 11:15 - Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211. She will later be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in their columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favorite charity in (Phyllis Grace’s) name.
